Vegeta, Prince of the Saiyans

Picture
Vegeta or Prince Vegeta is a character in Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT. He was created by the Japanese Mangaka, Akira Toriyama. He is the husband of Bulma and the father of Trunks and Bulla. He is also the prince of the fallen Saiyan race and arch-rival to Goku. Aside from Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo, he is easily one of the most prominent characters in the series, receiving more character development after being introduced than a number of other characters. Vegeta's name is a pun off the first half of the word, "vegetable."

Appearance

Vegeta is 5'3" tall (in comparison with Goku's 5'7" tall). His hair firmly stands upwards, and has a prominent widow's peak. A main characteristic of Vegeta's was the fact that he was the only living Saiyan whom continued to wear the traditional Saiyan armor (in reference to his heritage) and has been seen wearing various different forms of the armor, therefore making the Saiyan armor more synonymous with him, although he slowly abandons the Saiyan armor later in Dragon Ball Z and then completely in Dragon Ball GT, where he is depicted wearing "Earth-like" clothing. This is possibly because his new levels of power prohibited the need for any type of fabricated armor. However, even when Vegeta does lose the armor, he is always seen wearing white gloves and white boots in battle throughout the Dragon Ball Z saga.

Vegeta's hair never grows in length besides when he transforms to Super Saiyan 2nd grade, Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 4. He states in an episode of the Perfect Cell Saga on Dragon Ball Z that a pure Saiyan's hair does not grow anymore once they have matured.

If observed closely, Vegeta actually changes appearance physically over the course of Dragon Ball Z. Originally he is drawn to appear very small and lean to make him appear to be the less threatening of his pairing with the immensely sized Nappa. However by the end of Dragon Ball Z he appears to be much taller (5'10"), more muscular, his hair height having also been shortened though he is still shorter than Goku.

Personality

Vegeta is haughty and arrogant and filled with hatred and bitterness as a result of the destruction of his home planet and his race's abusive treatment at the hands of Frieza. His royal status seems to have caused him to develop an inflated sense of superiority, and he holds himself above most people he encounters.

Ever since he was a child, he has shown to be a ruthless killer who shows no mercy, just like most Saiyans. During the Namek Saga, he did begin to exhibit changes; rather than killing Krillin or Gohan like he promised in the previous saga, he instead forms an alliance with them. After he is defeated by Frieza, he tells Goku that Frieza forced him to be a ruthless killer and that he never had the chance to be anything else (indicating that he could have been kinder and more merciful if not for Frieza). From then on, Vegeta softened up and even showed compassion to his new family, Bulma and Trunks. It wasn't until the Babidi Saga that he gave in to his dark side and became evil once again (though he implied that he could have stopped the possession if he really tried, but his obsession to beat Goku got the better of him).

One of his most defining traits is his rivalry with Goku and an obsession to surpass him in power. In Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn, he goes so far as to break down in tears over his inability to surpass Goku. After the defeat of Kid Buu, he had a change of heart and his angry grudge against Goku became a friendly rivalry. Vegeta is also shown to be one of the most intelligent characters in the series. He is also one of the most serious, rarely exhibiting humour. When he does so, his humour is very dry.

At the beginning of the series to near the end, Vegeta has shown to be exceptionally vain and egotistical. A strong example of this is shown when he is fighting Semi-Perfect Cell. Though he could have ended the battle in an instant, his arrogance got the best of him and he purposely let Cell absorb Android 18 just to fight a stronger opponent and test his power. While fighting Majin Buu and Janemba, he refused to fuse with Goku due to his pride, but Goku managed to persuade him, and he later becomes more open to fusion, going so far as to propose it himself in the fight with Omega Shenron(Though this was in the GT series).

Vegeta has also shown himself to be extremely aggressive and angry. Throughout the first half of the Frieza Saga, whoever he faced and defeated he killed without mercy. Indeed, his only sign of mercy is when he lets the "new" Captain Ginyu go as he didn't want frog guts on his clean boots and that being a frog was bad enough for the Ginyu.

Vegeta has also been seen scared of opponents like Broly and Frieza, but is shown to come around. In Broly's case, this could be out of respect for the rumor of "The Legendary Super Saiyan."

History

Behind Vegeta's childhood

Vegeta was born sometime in the year 732 A.D. and is first seen in his youth in Dragonball Z: Bardock - The Father of Goku. Vegeta destroyed 6-7 -7 Saibamen effortlessly in this movie. The movie also depicts Vegeta's father, King Vegeta, as King of the Saiyan race. However, he (along with the young prince) was under the rule of the interplanetary warlord Frieza. Frieza killed King Vegeta and destroyed the Saiyan planet, Planet Vegeta. With this annihilation, Frieza took out all the Saiyans, with the exception of Goku, Raditz, Vegeta, Nappa, Turles, Paragus, Broly and Tarble. Frieza kept Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz as slaves to do his bidding, while Goku escaped the devastation by being sent to cleanse Earth of its inhabitants moments before it was destroyed. In the manga chapter of the Namek Saga, Vegeta expresses his anger about working for Frieza and his top henchman, whom he states was responsible for mocking him for many years and "working him like a slave." Vegeta constantly refers to himself as the "Prince of all Saiyans," a title he is extremely proud of. Vegeta does not refer to himself as the "King of all Saiyans," possibly out of respect for his father, a refusal to admit the extinction of the Saiyans, or because he was never formally declared King.

Behind the Prince

As the Prince of the demolished Planet Vegeta, Vegeta was initially introduced as an unrepentant villain. From his evil intentions before he joined the Z Fighters, Vegeta has been typically characterized as extremely arrogant, vengeful, and somewhat cold. Many early stints of heroism were due to self-interest or revenge, although he later settles down and grows fond of Earth as his home, raising a family with Bulma. His opinion of Goku always being one step ahead of him, even though he is a lower class Saiyan, runs the gamut from contempt to rivalry, and later to respect and friendship. Naturally, Goku always takes an optimistic opinion about him. Vegeta is more of a tactical fighter, but often, his rage or arrogance blinds him in his fighting style. His royal blood and intense fighting style have both benefited and harmed him in many battles. Vegeta's actual age is unknown, but he was approximately five when the events of Bardock - The Father of Goku took place. This places Vegeta at 28 years of age (Goku is five years younger, and was 18 when he got married five years prior to the Saiyan Saga) when he first appears in the Vegeta Saga.

Vegeta and Bulma

Vegeta and Bulma initially meet on planet Namek, but neither actually talked to the other; Bulma was too frightened, and Vegeta did not care, especially when his main concern was to find the Dragon Balls. However, their first interaction with each other was prior to his battle with Zarbon, to which Vegeta threatened to kill both Bulma and Krillin. The first time any affection is displayed between them is in "Immortality Denied", in which Vegeta, during a conversation with Gohan, refers to Bulma as a "gorgeous girl" in the Ocean dub.

Despite their rocky start, Bulma was more than willing to put up with Vegeta, even if he scared her. Upon his resurrection after being killed by Frieza, and then being teleported to Earth, Bulma invites Vegeta to live at Capsule Corp as he has nowhere to go, on the condition that he does not touch her. Vegeta reluctantly accepts her offer, but quickly leaves Earth in search for Goku after he discovers his unwillingness to return back to Earth from the Namek Dragon. During his absence on Earth, Bulma begins to slowly but surely show signs of affection towards the Saiyan Prince, after having a dream about him; she also shows a deep concern for him after being informed that his ship is about to run out of fuel soon. Her then boyfriend Yamcha not only begins to get jealous, but also shows resentment towards Vegeta, who has no idea about Bulma's feelings towards him.

At one time, Vegeta was seriously injured after his training capsule exploded while he tried to train under 400 to 500 times normal gravity. Bulma nurses him back to care, and even kisses the oxygen mask he had on. Later, Vegeta awakes to find Bulma asleep beside him, and wonders why she's there. Bulma also tells Vegeta to stop training because of his injuries, but Vegeta refuses to listen, and tells her to leave him alone. Presumably after a year since Future Trunks' warning about the Androids, Bulma eventually breaks up with Yamcha and gets romantically involved with Vegeta, ultimately leading to the birth of Trunks. However, even the birth of their son was not enough to bring the two together, as Vegeta prioritized his rivalry with Goku before anything else. Arguments were common between the two, with Bulma often calling Vegeta a jerk and Vegeta showing little to no care or emotion for his son or his future wife; this was demonstrated during an incident in which Bulma's plane is destroyed and their lives are at risk. When Future Trunks saves the two and questions Vegeta as to why he didn't save them, Vegeta responds that he has "more important things to worry about than that foolish woman and her blasted child." Bulma later humiliates Vegeta in front of everyone when she says that every time he sticks his "Geeky little" face up to Trunks, it makes Trunks cry, much to Krillin and Gohan's amusement. ("Follow Dr. Gero")

However, the seven years of peace that came after the conclusion of the Cell Games would suggest that the two settled their differences and began to have a much better relationship than previously. Vegeta eventually became fond of his family in the Majin Buu Saga on Earth, but is ashamed of himself for doing so, wanting to be the coldhearted prince he once was. Nonetheless, Vegeta still sacrifices to save Earth when fighting Majin Buu. Another more comical show of his fondness towards Bulma can be seen in his angry reaction when he finds out that Goku promised Elder Kai that he could kiss her (in the original version, Goku promised to show Elder Kai some sexy pictures of Bulma).

Battling Earth's Special Forces

Vegeta is introduced to Dragon Ball Z at twenty nine years of age as a mercenary for Frieza. Vegeta comes to Earth when he receives Raditz's report of seven magic objects known as the Dragon Balls which will grant wishes. After hearing this report, and of Raditz's death, Vegeta and his companion, Nappa, decide to come to Earth and use the Dragon Balls to wish for immortality (it's implied in later sagas that he desired immortality so he could defeat Frieza). Goku and the Z Fighters are warned of their arrival, and begin to train themselves. When they landed on Earth, Nappa and Vegeta wreaked havoc with little to stop them. They were then confronted by Piccolo , Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha, Krillin, and Gohan. After losing Yamcha (after one Saibamen's self destruct), the rest of Z Fighters power up and defeat the remaining Saibamen.

Vegeta and Nappa are impressed, but Nappa decides to heat things up by being the first to battle Earth's defenders. Vegeta sits back and watches the show. Nappa easily dominates all the Z Fighters, resulting in Tien's death. He does manage to be wounded every now and then, but for the most part he seems in total control of the battle. Chiaotzu dies soon after in a desperate attempt to kill Nappa, in which he self-destructs on Nappa's back, he also laughs when Nappa was insulted by Piccolo but warns Nappa about Krillin's Disk attack. The Z Fighters desperately needed Goku's help, but Goku was still trying to reach the site of the battle. Goku, after training with King Kai, was now much more powerful than when he fought Raditz. He flew down the long Snake Way, but eventually made it off Snake Way, and lands on Earth. He quickly makes it to the battle field using his Flying Nimbus. Nappa was about to kill Gohan, when Piccolo stood between Nappa's attack and, thus sacrificing himself for Gohan's sake.

Goku arrived just before he could land his second blow. Vegeta detects the high power level of Goku with his scouter, and after a quick introduction, Goku begins to fight Nappa. Goku and Nappa seemed to be evenly matched at first, but the benefits of Goku's training quickly became evident. When Vegeta calls Nappa back, the brutish Saiyan decides that he will kill Gohan and Krillin instead. Goku invokes the Kaio-ken technique, and stops Nappa before he can do anything, crippling him in the process. Because of Nappa's failure to defeat a low class Saiyan like Goku, Vegeta kills him. After giving everyone Senzu Beans, which fully recovers the user's strength, Goku tells Gohan and Krillin to leave Vegeta to him.

They eventually agree, and leave the battle field. Vegeta offers Goku a chance to join him, but Goku quickly turns down the offer as he already had everything he wanted, and had already seen how Vegeta treats his "teammates". The fight begins, and it is made clear that Vegeta is much stronger than the much-improved Goku. Even using Kaio-ken at the second level (Kaio-ken times two) wasn't enough to stop Vegeta. Thus, Goku had to push the multiplier of the technique even higher, ignoring King Kai's warnings. With this power, Goku was able to fight Vegeta on equal ground to an extent, and the Prince of Saiyans lost his temper and decided he would destroy the planet with his Galick Gun technique, and go find the Dragon Balls on Namek instead. However, Goku countered the Galick Gun with a Kamehameha, and the two struggled for several minutes. When it seemed Vegeta was gaining the upper hand, Goku finally pushed himself to unforeseen levels and used Kaio-ken x4 to boost his power even higher, in turn suprising and overwhelming Vegeta and sending him skywards. Vegeta managed to survive the beam carrying him ever higher. Thus, Vegeta decided to transform himself into a Great Ape, which would multiply his power ten fold. When Vegeta transformed, Goku was completely outclassed and had to resort to using the Spirit Bomb technique. However before he could use it, Vegeta disrupted it. Vegeta then began to slowly crush Goku, instead of killing him quickly.

Krillin and Gohan had seen the Power Ball technique that Vegeta had used to transform, and had returned to the battle. Upon finding Goku defeated, they attempted to distract Vegeta and cut off his tail, in order to force him back to his normal form. This attempt failed, but Yajirobe succeeded where the strong Z Fighters had not. When he was back to normal, Vegeta became enraged and fought Gohan briefly. Despite Gohan's efforts, Vegeta is far stronger and faster than he is. Goku then decides to give Krillin the last of the Spirit Bomb he managed to retain. Krillin accepted this new energy, and was instructed by Goku how to unleash it on Vegeta.

Panicking at first, Krillin receives further instructions from North Kai, and he hurls the Spirit Bomb at Vegeta. At first it missed, but Gohan was pure enough that he could bounce the energy back, striking Vegeta. The Spirit Bomb hit him and damaged him, reducing his energy and strength greatly; but he survived. Vegeta then draws upon his Ki reserves and unleashes a mighty blast that strikes down everyone nearby. Vegeta notices that Gohan has regrown his tail from the effects of the Power Ball, and realizes that he may soon transform. The villain is unable to prevent this thanks to Yajirobe distracting him with an attack from behind. Realizing his mistake, Vegeta quickly returns to Gohan, but was too late. Gohan was a Great Ape, and Vegeta in his severely weakened state could not defeat him. However, Vegeta could out-think the primitive ape form of Gohan, and manages to cut off Gohan's tail, returning the young half-breed to normal size and power. Before Gohan could fully return to normal, however, he fell on Vegeta as a Great Ape, and Vegeta was unable to dodge in his wounded state. Vegeta finally retreats, and crawls to his space pod, realizing he cannot keep fighting in his current condition. A weakened Krillin gains consciousness and was about to kill him with Yajirobe's katana sword, but Goku asked him to let Vegeta go. Vegeta then departs Earth, and his space pod takes him to one of the planets controlled by Frieza. With his extreme arrogance he cannot understand how a "low-class" Saiyan like Goku could have done so well against him, unwilling to factor the contributions of the other three warriors into the battle.

Trip to Planet Namek

After rehabilitation, Cui tells Vegeta that Frieza is already on Namek alongside his henchmen Zarbon and Dodoria and they are searching for the Dragon Balls. Without wasting any time, Vegeta makes his way to Planet Namek, now planning to make a wish the Dragonballs. During his stay on the planet he meets up with Krillin and Gohan, who were also in search of the Namekian Dragonballs. He tries to track them down and torment them, but eventually leaves them alone since he has much bigger problems such as Frieza, his previous master and the warlord who was also in search of the mystical Balls. While on Namek, Vegeta is followed and ambushed by Cui. Frieza had given Cui the order to terminate Vegeta, something he had been hoping to hear for many years. However, Vegeta's encounter with the earthlings allowed his strength to grow exponentially higher (as a Saiyan's strength increases in proportion to how near death a battle leaves him) and he easily kills Cui. Vegeta later takes the opportunity to dispatch Dodoria as well. Once Dodoria is alone, Vegeta learns from him the true circumstances of Planet Vegeta's destruction by Frieza himself. Vegeta is not in a forgiving mood so he ruthlessly executes Dodoria as well. After killing Dodoria, Vegeta goes and causes mass havoc in a Namekian village in order to obtain one of the Dragon Balls. Frieza and his henchmen had already collected five Dragon Balls so he hopes to hang on to one and steal the rest from Frieza when the opportunity would show itself.

Once Vegeta obtains one Dragon Ball and hides it, he takes flight and he soon comes face to face with Frieza's most powerful henchman, Zarbon. Vegeta and Zarbon enter a fierce battle and Vegeta seems to have the upper hand until Zarbon undergoes a powerful reptilian transformation. Zarbon and Vegeta resume the brutal battle. Before finishing the battle, Zarbon reveals to Vegeta that Frieza can also transform. Zarbon easily defeats Vegeta with multiple kicks and combos and performs a powerful piledriver, sending Vegeta headfirst into the ground and completely battered. Zarbon returned to Frieza to relay the message of his victory, but Frieza wasn't satisfied. Frieza knows that Vegeta may know the location of one of the Dragon Balls so he sends Zarbon to go and retrieve Vegeta and heal him for questioning. Vegeta was later dragged back to Frieza's ship by Zarbon, where he healed him in a rejuvenation chamber. Vegeta waited for the right opportunity to escape. He made a clever distraction (he blasted the wall to the outside off leading Frieza and Zarbon to believe he ran off, although he was actually hiding in the ship) and ran away with Frieza's collected Dragon Balls. Frieza is extremely angered and he sends Zarbon after Vegeta once more, giving him a limit of one hour. Zarbon is able to locate Vegeta, along with Krillin and Bulma. A fierce clash ensues and the now healed and fully rejuvenated Vegeta reveals that he has become stronger from his near death experience. Zarbon cannot believe it, but he is unable to defeat Vegeta even in his transformed state. Vegeta ruthlessly slams his fist through Zarbon's stomach and blasts him, sending him to a watery grave in the Namekian sea. Krillin, realizing that he can't keep the Dragon Ball from Vegeta, begrudgingly hands it over without a fight. Vegeta now had six of the seven Dragon Balls in his grasp, and needed only one more to make his dream of immortality a reality. While en route to where he had hidden his Dragon Ball, he meets up with Gohan, and injures the boy for fun before leaving him. After getting back to where he had hidden his Dragon Ball, Vegeta realizes that Gohan had stolen it and berates himself for letting a kid fool him. He heads back to where Bulma had made her hideout and destroys it, but to his frustration finds that everyone had already left.

Combating the Ginyu Force

When Vegeta escaped Frieza's ship with five of the seven Namekian Dragonballs, Frieza sent word to summon the Ginyu Force, the most powerful warriors in his army. The Ginyu Force were a team of 5, consisting of: Recoome, Burter, Jeice, Guldo, and their leader, Captain Ginyu. They were strange, often making amusingly correographed dances and poses, but were also extremely powerful. Once they arrived on planet Namek, Frieza ordered them to retrieve the Namekian Dragonballs, bring Vegeta back to him alive, and kill any others that got in their way. Meanwhile, Vegeta sensed the arrival of the Ginyu Force and forges an alliance with Gohan and Krillin, all three deciding that their only chance of survival is to wish for Vegeta's immortality with the Dragonballs (Vegeta had six and Gohan and Krillin had the last one). Out in space, Goku continues on his journey to planet Namek in a space ship that Dr. Briefs made for him. While en route, Goku uses a machine installed on the ship to increase the gravity within the ship to help him train under large amounts of gravity, starting at 20 times Earth's normal gravity and eventually working his way up to 100 times Earth's normal gravity.

Meanwhile, back on planet Namek, Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin race back to where Vegeta was keeping his six Dragonballs and are about to wish for Vegeta's immortality but Krillian hesitates out of fear of an immortal Vegeta. Suddenly, the Ginyu Force arrives on the island where Vegeta, Gohan, and Kirllin are. Terrified, Vegeta attempts to "hide" one of the Dragonballs by throwing it far off into the sea but Burter uses his incredible speed to catch it in mid-air. Vegeta then desperately orders Krillin to destroy the Dragonball he is holding so that Frieza cannot make his wish for immortality. But before Krillin can destroy it, Guldo freezes time and snatches the Dragonball out of his hands. Outmanuevered, Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin look on in terror as Captain Ginyu takes the seven Dragonballs and flies off to report to Frieza, leaving the four remaining members of the Ginyu Force to deal with Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin.

After playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine who would fight who, Guldo prepares to engage Gohan and Krillin. As the three begin fighting, it appears as if Gohan and Krillin have Guldo on the ropes, as Guldo is barely able to freeze time long enough to escape the two's energy blasts. Just when it seems that Gohan and Krillin will win, Guldo reveals his trump card: the ability to mentally petrify his enemies. He uses this desperate move to trap Gohan and Krillin in place as he uses telekinesis to make a skewer out of a nearby tree. He launches the skewer at the frozen Gohan and Krillin. Just when it seems like Gohan and Krillin are about to become shish kebab, Vegeta fires an energy beam at Guldo and cuts his head off, stopping the skewer just seconds away from impaling Gohan and Krillin.

With Guldo gone, Recoome steps up to challenge Vegeta. With his newfound power after recovering from his battle on Earth and his battle with Zarbon, Vegeta launches into a powerful assault on Recoome, landing several powerful hits and firing an intense energy blast at Recoome that appears to take care of him. However, as the dust settles and Recomme emerges unharmed from the debris, it looks like the trio is in trouble. When Vegeta effortlessly takes down Vegeta, Krillin goes in to help, believing that the only chance they have of surviving is if Vegeta survives. However, Krillin's efforts are in vain as Recoome easily knocks him aside with a single blow. Gohan then goes in to help Krillin, and despite the young warrior's newly unlocked hidden powers (courtesy of Guru), Recomme manages to easily fend him off. Just when all hope seems lost, Goku lands on planet Namek. After a quick scan of the power levels on the planet, Goku concludes that the strongest power level is Frieza's, the second strongest is Captain Ginyu's and his friends' power levels are quickly fading. Goku quickly rushes onto the scene where the three remaining members of the Ginyu Force (excluding Captain Ginyu) and his friends are. Goku heals his friends and Vegeta (against Krillin's protests) with Senzu Beans that he brought from Earth.

The remaining members of the Ginyu Force, agitated by the interruption of Goku's arrival, proceed to engage him in battle, but they prove to be no match for Goku, and he soundly defeats them all, knocking out Recoome (with a single hit) and Burter, and letting Jeice flee. Angered that Goku refuses to finish off Recoome and Burter he kills them himself, and Goku is upset that Vegeta would do such a thing, Vegeta explains that by letting them live he and Gohan's lives would be at risk. After the fighting is over, the others state that all hope is lost as Captain Ginyu has probably already brought Frieza the Dragonballs and Frieza may already be immortal. Krillin remarks that on Earth, the sky turns black when the Dragon is summoned, and since that hasn't happened, Frieza probably hasn't made his wish. That's when Goku fills the others in on a little secret, the namekian Dragonballs can only be activated when one says the correct password! Meanwhile, Jeice arrives at Frieza's ship and requests Captain Ginyu's help to deal with Goku. Annoyed at having to get his hands dirty, Captain Ginyu agrees and flies off with Jeice to fight Goku.

Goku tells Gohan and Krillin to fetch the Dragon Radar and locate the Dragonballs. Captain Ginyu and Jeice arrive on the scene just as Gohan and Krillin leave. Goku asks for Vegeta's help in fighting the remaining Ginyu Force members and Vegeta agrees, but quickly flies off laughing, leaving Goku to deal with Jeice and Captain Ginyu himself. After some short fighting, Captain Ginyu realizes that Goku is holding back, and asks that he reveal his full power. Using his scouter, Captain Ginyu is shocked to find Goku reaching a power level of 180,000! Coming to the conclusion that he can't hope to defeat Goku, he instead to use his special ability to swap bodies with Goku, but not before fatally injuring his own body (causing Goku to suffer from pain when he enters Captain Ginyu's body). Satisfied with his cunning trick, Captain Ginyu flies off in Goku's body with Jeice trailing.

The new Captain Ginyu in Goku's body, now wields a great power from Goku. He starts to fool Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan. Vegeta however, realized that Goku was not himself. Krillin and Gohan were easily fooled, but immediately came to their senses that Goku isn't himself when they saw Goku wearing a scouter, and hanging around Jeice. Krillin and Gohan then joined forces to stop Captain Ginyu in Goku's body. Meanwhile, Vegeta handles Jeice on his own. He swiftly kills the meddling Ginyu Force member, and heads off to fight Captain Ginyu. Goku, now in Captain Ginyu's body, makes an alliance with Gohan, Vegeta, and Krillin, to stop Ginyu in Goku's body. As Ginyu had figured out how to use Goku's body, he took the upper hand against Krillin and Gohan. Vegeta however, completely overpowered him and was about to finish him off. Captain Ginyu fired another change beam, which was fortunately intercepted by Goku, and both returned to their original bodies. Captain Ginyu, now in his old body, was no match for Goku or Vegeta. He was being pummeled by Vegeta. Knowing he is finished, Captain Ginyu planned another Body switch using his change beam, with Vegeta. The beam was about to connect with Vegeta, but Goku threw a frog in between them. The body switch was now with a Frog. Captain Ginyu was now a frog, and the frog was Captain Ginyu. Vegeta decides to not kill Goku and take his revenge on him, because he needs his help to stop Frieza. Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan take Goku into a recovery chamber, where he would begin healing.

The evil tyrant, Frieza

Eventually, after Cui, Dodoria, Appule, Zarbon, Guldo, Recoome, Burter, Jeice and Captain Ginyu have all failed in their attempts to kill Vegeta, Frieza decided to take matters into his own hands. After realizing his powerful Ginyu Force members were all taken down, Frieza was furious. He fled towards his ship to find any traces of his collected Dragon Balls. Meanwhile, Vegeta stands by a rejuvenating Goku. Vegeta spares Goku only in time on his assistance against Frieza. Krillin and Gohan gather the 7 Namekian Dragon Balls, and began telling their wishes. Their first wish was for Piccolo's return. Then they wished to transport him back on Namek. Their 3rd and final wish was interrupted by an enraged Vegeta. He found out about their schemes, from looking at the dark skies. Frieza also realized this strange feature, and was gaining on them at high speeds. Vegeta pries Dende, the wisher of the Namekian Dragon, to wish him immortality to stop Frieza. The wish almost succeeded, but Guru, the eldest of all Nameks, died. Then, Frieza showed up. He provided a sneak peak at his amazing power, but Vegeta was able to match him.

Vegeta told Frieza to transform and explained that Zarbon had already mentioned that Frieza also had the ability to transform, seeing it was no longer a secret. As a result, Frieza decided to transform with some provocation from Vegeta. In this new form, Frieza was too powerful for Vegeta, and especially Krillin, Dende, or Gohan. Goku was healing, and even he could sense Frieza's awesome power. Frieza badly injured Krillin by stabbing him with his huge horns. This enraged Gohan, who, after awakening his dormant hidden power, makes a surprise attack on Frieza and temporarily hurts him, but to no avail. After doing away with Gohan, Frieza was then confronted by Piccolo, who had fused with Nail to become even more powerful. It seemed Piccolo could handle Frieza in his 2nd Transformation. As a result, Frieza decided to transform into his most hideous form. After transforming yet again, Frieza was once again too powerful for anyone, including the fused Piccolo. He was being completely dominated by Frieza's immense strength. Gohan, once again spurred on, races to help Piccolo and unleashes a massive "Masenko" on Frieza, hindering him for quite a bit of time. When Frieza eventually manages to deflect this, Vegeta realized Frieza may be too strong for even him or Goku, and concocts a plan to reach the rank of Super Saiyan by having Krillin hurt him badly, leaving only an inch of his life, then having healed him (because Saiyans grow stronger when they recover from near-death experiences). He fails as Frieza decided yet again to transform due to Gohan, when angered, being powerful enough to deter his 3rd form.

Even Goku had to open his eyes in awe of Frieza's frightening power. Frieza first killed Dende, injured Piccolo, and then began brutalizing Vegeta. Vegeta was on the brink of death from Frieza's assault, until the renewed Goku showed up and briefly rescued him. However, Frieza fired a Death Beam right through Vegeta's heart, ending the Saiyan Prince's life. Vegeta dies slowly and painfully, pouring his heart and his past out to Goku as the only other pure-blooded Saiyan left alive. Goku vows to take revenge for Vegeta on behalf of their race, burying the fallen prince and then fighting Frieza.

Vegeta is later resurrected when a wish is made with the Dragon Balls to bring back everyone killed on Planet Namek by Frieza. He is revived and brought to Earth, but not before he sees that Goku has transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan warrior that Saiyan legend says will appear only every three millennia. Meanwhile, Goku defeats Frieza but, unbeknownst to Goku or anyone else, Frieza survives. Goku then retreats to train and heal in space. Vegeta follows him in a spaceship he steals from Bulma.

Android Saga

All was peaceful on earth until a half cyborg Freeza and his father King Cold arrived to take revenge on Goku. A mysterious youth also arrived. He turned into a Super Saiyajin and quickly deposed of Freeza and King Cold. Vegeta was then enraged that there was another Super Saiyajin. It was later revealed that the mysterious youth's name was Trunks and was the future son of Bulma and Vegeta. He came from an apocalyptic future where Goku dies of a viral heart disease and evil androids created by Dr. Gero killed all the other Z fighters. He gave Goku the antidote to the disease and said he will return in one year when the androids arrive.

Vegeta then started to get plagued by bad dreams of Goku and Trunks being a Super Saiyajins. Vegeta began intense training in over 400 times gravity. He then set out into space where he played intense target practice with planetary sized asteroids.

A year later the Adroids arrived. Adriod 19 and Dr Gero (Andriod 20) faced the Z fighters. Goku fought with Andriod 19 and seemed to have the upperhand, but his heart condition kicked in and Adriod 19 began absorbing all of Goku's power. He was saved by Vegeta and Vegeta revealed that he too has become a Super Saiyajin. Vegeta fought the Andriod and showed his superiority by letting the Andriod absorb most of his power and then ripping the android's arms off. He then finished him with his Big Bang Attack.

Dr Gero made his escape and activated two deadlier androids. Androids 17 and 18. 17 and 18 killed Gero and activated android 16. Vegeta then fought android 18. They seemed equal at first but the androids were revealed to have an infinite supply of energy, Vegeta was no match. Piccolo also met with another being by the name of Cell. His goal was to absorb 17 and 18 to become a perfect being.

Goku and Vegeta realized that they needed to become a lot stronger to defeat the androids and Cell so Vegeta and Trunks began training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at Kami's look out. One day in the chamber is equal to a whole year. A person could only go in for two days in there entire life.

Vegeta and Trunks came out much stronger and confronted Cell, after he absorbing Andriod 17. Vegeta transformed to a higher level of Super Saiyajin and was easily toying with Cell. But Cell attacked Vegeta's pride and told Vegeta he could never beat him if he absorbed Andriod 18. So Vegeta let him despite protest from Trunks

Cell now in his perfect form was too much of a match for Vegeta, but Vegeta had a trump card, his Final Flash. Even Cell didn't anticipate this deadly attack and was almost totally vaporized. But he was able to move slightly to the side at the last moment. With almost half his body missing Cell regenerated and defeated Vegeta.

Trunks then fought Cell and transfomed into the 2nd grade of Super Saiyajin but realized it was in vain because it decreesed his speed and that's why his father didn't use that form. Cell was impressed at their power and gave them a week to train for a special tournament, the Cell Games.

Cell Games

Vegeta and Trunks took another opportunity to use the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. All of the Z fighters arrived at the Tournament. Goku first challenged Cell and the match seemed to be even, but Goku did something unexpected and gave Cell a Senzu Bean. He put his son Gohan in his place. Cell heard that if Gohan gets angry he will fight at his full capacity. Cell decided to make Cell Jrs to fight the Z fighters to anger Gohan. The Cell Jrs had almost the same fighting power as Cell so only Vegeta and Trunks were able to hold them off since Goku was exausted from his battle with Cell. Cell then crushed the head of Andriod 16 and Gohan became so infuriated he turned into a Super Saiyajin 2. The Cell Jrs were instantly defeated and Gohan punched Cell so hard that he spit out Andriod 18 and lost his perfect form. Cell then prepared to destroy the earth by blowing himself to bring it to a stalemate. Goku stepped in and teleported Cell to King Kai's place so the earth would be saved. Cell blew up King Kai's planet and Goku.

Cell came back and was more powerful then ever. He was able to survive because a single cell in his body survived his blast and he was able to regenerate. He copied Goku's Instant Transmission technique. He had the same aura that Super Saiyajin 2s had and he demonstrated his new power by killing Trunks. Vegeta became enraged and threw multiple energy blast at Cell for a good few minutes but his onslaught proved no match for Cell's new power. Cell then threw a large energy blast to finish Vegeta off. Gohan saved Vegeta by letting the blast hit his arm.

Gohan's arm was now useless and and he was only at half power when he faced Cell. Cell then prepared a large Kamehameha wave, Gohan did the same. Cell seemed to have the upperhand as the energy blast from both Kamehamehas collided. Goku's astral form appeared and helped give Gohan the confidence he needed to hold off Cell. The other Z fighters tried to intervene but Cell just ignored their energy blast. Vegeta then fired a large Ki blast right at Cell disrupting his concentration. Gohan then took the opportunity to completely obliterate Cell.

Buu Saga

Seven years later Goku returned from the dead for one day with the help of Baba the Witch to compete in the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai. A being considered to be an supreme god named, Kaioshin warned Goku about the sorcerer, Babidi and his plans to resurrect the ultimate evil Majin Buu. Vegeta had plans of his own. He wanted to challenge Goku again since this would be his only chance.

Babidi had the Z fighters fight multiple opponents in order to gather energy for Majin Buu's revival. Dabura one of Babidis strongest fighters discovered that Vegeta's heart wasn't as pure as the others and Babidi attempted to gain control of Vegeta to fight the other Saiyajins. Vegeta then became Majin Vegeta and killed 100's of people in the martial arts stadium to get Goku to fight him. It was later revealed that Vegeta used this as an excuse just to fight Goku. Vegeta's pride proved to resiliant against Babidi's mind control. Both Majin Vegeta and Goku were able to fight as Super Saiyajin 2 and were too evenly matched. Majin Buu was resurected from all the battle energy. Vegeta and Goku agreed to stop to fight Buu. Vegeta asked Goku for a Senzu Bean and knocked Goku out with a blow to the head. Vegeta was determined to fight Majin Buu alone. He was angry at himself because he couldn't feel Gohan's energy and blamed himself for allowing the energy for Majin Buu's revival.

Vegeta squared off against Buu (Fat Buu). Vegeta seemed to have the upperhand and even blew a hole right through Buu. But Majin Buu was able to regenerate. Vegeta only saw one option. He gathered up all his energy and blew himself and Majin Buu up. But although completely in pieces Majin Buu regenerated.

Vegeta was then brought back to life to fight Super Buu. At this point Buu absorbed Piccolo, Gotenks, and Gohan. Buu proved to be too much of a match for Goku and Vegeta. They used the Potara earings to fuse into Vegetto. Majin Buu was no match for Vegetto and tried to absorb him. Vegetto allowed this so he could get inside of Buu and free all the people he aborbed. Althought the fusion of Vegetto was supposed to be permanent Majin Buu's body caused the two to separate. Goku and Vegeta saved all the people inside Buu and Vegeta ripped Fat Buu out. This caused Super Buu to become his most evil form, Kid Buu. Kid Buu responded by destroying earth. Goku and Vegeta escaped to Kaioshin's planet. Majin Buu then sought out Goku and Vegeta and destroyed each planet he teleported too. Goku and Vegeta raised there power so Buu could find them. Goku and Vegeta fought Buu but Buu proved too tough. Vegeta then distracted Buu giving Goku enough time to form a large Genkidama (Spirit Bomb) that finally obliterated Buu. Vegeta finally admitted at this point that Goku is number one.

Majin Vegeta

When Babidi and Majin buu came to earth they seeked power and wanted to control Earth. After Majin buu defeated Dabura Babidi looked for someone else who would hold back the z fighters from stopping Babidi.Babidi found someone who didnt like goku and despised him this person was Vegeta, when Babidi used his mind control on him

Vegeta became more powerful.Majin Vegeta is full with rage and mind control From Babidi when Vegeta transforms he is able to fire blasts more fast then usual.Majin vegeta is also able to use more deadly attacks like the atomic blast and galick gun. After Goku defeated (more accurately thought Majin Vegeta got to his senses)Majin Vegeta Goku explained that Majin Buu has been resurrected and that if they don't stop Buu, Buu will destroy everything including Bulma and Trunks. Though it appeared to Goku that Vegeta has agreed to help him when Vegeta asks for a sensu bean from Goku, but while Goku was getting the sensu bean out, Vegeta delivered a devastating blow to Goku's back making him knocked out. Majin Vegeta took the sensu bean and went away to fight Majin Buu. In the beginning it appeared that Majin Vegeta was winning, but sooner later, Buu was starting to turn the tables around and so Majin Vegeta was loosing. Then Majin Buu immobilized Majin Vegeta when Buu made a pink putty and used it to immobilize Majin Vegeta. Trunks then came in along with Goten to kick Buu away after seeing Majin Vegeta being brutalized by Buu and then removed the pink putty off from Majin Vegeta. Majin Vegeta then begins to talk to trunks about the responsibilities he will have to take and suddenly hits Trunks in the neck just enough to knock him out and punches Goten in the stomach just to knock him out. Piccolo when arrives to Vegeta and Vegeta told Piccolo to take the boys with him and go as far as he can. After Piccolo left, Vegeta then prepares to blow himself up to make sure that Majin Buu will die with him. After the explosion (called Final Explosion) Vegeta's body was like a statue in mid-air and then it fell down, broke, and disappeared into the winds. So since Vegeta died, the spell that made him Majin Vegeta has gone away, but Piccolo came back to the explosion site and sees only Bobidi, then the pieces of Majin Buu began to come together and Piccolo realizes that Buu is not dead and so he flew away.

On his travels across the galaxy, Goku encountered a parasitic alien known as Baby. Baby a genetic expirament created by the Tsufurujin wanted revenge on the Saiyajin race for killing off the Tsufurujin.

Baby has the ability to liquefy himself and then enter a hosts body through a cut or a scrape and gain control of the person.

Although he wasn't very powerful he gains control of Goten through a small cut and then is able to use Goten to cut Gohan in the same fashion. A possessed Gohan and Goten square off against Vegeta. Although Vegeta was stronger then the pair they managed to cut him with a speed attack. Now with the whole planet taken over and Vegeta as his main host planned on creating a new Tsufurujin planet and leaving earth. He was confronted by Uubu (the fusion of Fat Buu and Uub). Uub used his candy beam on Vegeta, but Vegeta deflected it back turning Uub into a chocolate, which Vegeta then devoured.

Goku arrived on earth and fought Vegeta. Although Goku was in his Super Saiyajin 3 state he was no match for Vegeta. Vegeta then attempted to kill Goku with his Revenge Death Ball, a evil version of Goku's Spirit Bomb made of dark energy. Goku was however teleported away from the blast in a split seecond by Kibitoshin.

Goku needed to be stronger so the Elder Kai and Kibitoshin stretched Goku's tail out with a set of large pliers. When Goku came back he turned into the Golden Ozaru form but wasnt able to control his reasoning. But with the help of Pan he was able to control this state and turned into a Super Saiyajin 4. With Goku's new found power he overpowered Vegeta. Vegeta realizing this new power had Bulma create a Brutz wave machine. When this machine is used it was able to turn Vegeta into the Golden Ozaru. Vegeta unlike goku was able to control his judgement in this state and overpowered Goku.

Uubu now inside Vegeta was able to distract him long enough for Goku to regain his composure. After a long battle Goku defeated Baby Vegeta and destroyed the parasite as it got away

But since Super Saiyajin 4 was so powerful the fusion technique lasted 20 minutes instead of its normal half hour. In a last ditch effort Goku powered up a universal Spirit bomb while Vegeta distracted Xi Xing Long even though he was peirced in the shoulder by one of Xi Xing Long's spikes. Ultra Super Saiya-jin 2nd stage- Mass and strength increase greatly but speed is decreased.

Revenge Deathball- A spirit bomb created of evil dark energy and is charged up much faster then Goku's. Vegeta only uses this technique when he is posessed by Baby.

Ozaru- When vegeta has his tail and saw the full moon he can turn into the great ape. This form multiplis Vegeta's powers 10x. This form was also attained when Bulma used the Brute wave on Vegeta.

Golden Ozaru- Basically Ozaru in Super Saiya-jin form.

Super Saiya-jin 3? Vegeta never reaches this form in the series. Although he is strong enough he is either unable or unwilling to transform into this state. Perhaps its because he saw Goku use his Super Saiyajin 3 power up technique to kill Kid Buu but lost his power when charging up. Vegeta called the technique stupid.

Super Saiya-jin 4- The most powerful form of Super Saiya-jin. Redish brown fur covers the body and hair grows a little. This form is first reached by controlling the Golden Ozaru form.
